LEGO Officially Announces Doctor Who and Wall-E Sets

LEGO has just announced two new awesome sets to be released sometime this year. Both sets come courtesy of LEGO Ideas, a site where fans submit ideas for new LEGO kits and then have the opportunity to gather supporters. After reaching 10,000 supporters, the project then enters a special phase called the LEGO Review. A review board, consisting of set designers and marketing representatives, evaluates each project according to various criteria and the best ones become new LEGO Ideas sets.

The UK spokesperson for LEGO Ideas, Emma Owen, commented:

We’re extremely excited to announce that a Doctor Who and a WALL-E set will be released as our next LEGO Ideas fan based sets, congratulations to the designers Andrew Clark and Angus MacLane!

After receiving over 10,000 votes from the online community and having gone through rigorous toy testing from our expert panel, these awesome sets are on track to be on shelves later this year. The final set designs, pricing and availability are being worked out as we speak, so watch this space for the final details!

Wall-E, that adorable waste collecting robot from the movie of the same name, was submitted by Angus MacLane who is a Pixar Animator and Director and one of the guys who actually worked on the Film. Angus built the model during production of the film and submitted his ideas in the hope it would become an official LEGO set.
