The second trailer for Chappie has just been released. From the Writer/Director who gave us District 9 and Elysium, Neill Blomkamp gives us another sci-fi thriller, this time based on one of Blomkamp’s short films, titled “Tetra Vaal”.
The star of the film is a robot named Chappie, the first robot with the ability to think and feel for himself. Chappie will come alive thanks to the voice and motion capture of another Blomkamp regular, Sharlto Copley.
Alongside Copley, Chappie also stars Hugh Jackman (X-Men & Wolverine franchises), Sigourney Weaver (Alien & Avatar franchises) and Dev Patel (Slumdog Millionaire, The Newsroom). The film will also start Ninja and Yolandi Visser, voices of the South African Zef counter-culture movement and members of rap-rave duo Die Antwoord.
Chappie is set for release on March 6 in the US and UK and March 12 in Australia and new Zealand.
Chappie tells the story of a robot imbued with artificial intelligence who is stolen by two local gangsters who want to use him for their own nefarious purposes. The film will star Sharlto Copley as the voice of Chappie, with Ninja and Yolandi Visser, voices of the South African Zef counter-culture movement and members of rap-rave duo Die Antwoord, as the two gangsters.
